Iran-Canada film enters Dutch int’l Filmfest

An Iranian-Canadian film is to have its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

The joint cinematic production of Iran and Canada ‘The Pot and the Oak’ has been selected to contend for awards at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), in the Netherlands.

Directed by Iranian filmmaker, script writer and video artist Kiarash Anvari, the feature film is slated to compete with 15 other films at the 2017 edition of the festival.

‘The Pot and the Oak’ will be vying with other participants at the Bright Future program section for Bright Future Award, dedicated to the “young, up-and-coming talents with a unique style and vision.”

Co-produced by Anvari and Majid Barzegar, the movie chronicles a man who faces an existential crisis.

Mehran Nael, Sadaf Foroughi, Mahvash Afsharpanah, Banipal Shoomoon, Bahareh Riahi and Mahan Khorshidi are among the movie cast.

“Born in Tehran, Anvari, 39, received his BA in film and television production from Soureh University in Tehran. After receiving his master’s degree in film studies from University of Provence in Aix-en-Provence, France, he continued with PhD in film philosophy.”

His short films, documentaries and video art works have been displayed in different venues and festivals around the world.

The 46th edition of annual International Film Festival Rotterdam is scheduled to be held from January 25 through February 5, 2017.
